2025 Winter Armageddon

The Auckland Wind Orchestra is thrilled to announce its return to the stage at 2025’s Winter Armageddon, New Zealand’s largest pop culture convention.

The band is presenting a program of exciting music from gaming greats, anime and shows, such as Joe Hisaishi’s ‘Spirited away’ from Studio Ghibli; A Cruel Angel's Thesis - The iconic opening from Neon Genesis Evangelion; selections from Nobuo Uematsu’s acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack; the finale theme from 2023 GOTY Baldur’s Gate 3; Helldivers 2’s epic main theme - A Cup Of Liber-Tea, as well as others including music from Squid Game, Demon Slayer, Game of Thrones and Naruto.

“A lot of these games I grew up with, and are iconic to a lot of people.” Says Andrew Uren, conductor of the Auckland Wind Orchestra, “The music of Final Fantasy, Pokémon, Ghibli, and others has shaped the emotional core of these stories — and hearing them live adds an entirely new dimension.”
